Middle School Pathway Exploration Policy

Winchester Middle School Pathway Exploration Policy

Winchester Public Schools (WPS) is committed to integrating career exploration and career-connected learning into its middle school curriculum. This initiative supports the WPS Strategic Plan's vision for authentic, real-world learning by helping students identify their interests, develop crucial skills, and understand the connection between academic subjects and future career paths.

This Middle School Pathway Exploration Policy, required by Massachusetts state regulations (603 CMR 4.00), serves to document how middle school students in the district are made aware of, and gain exposure to, career technical education (CTE) schools and programs available to them in their district, regional, agricultural, and other public high schools.

Collaboration

The Winchester Public Schools will collaborate with CTE schools and programs in our district, regional, agricultural, and other public high schools to inform students about such opportunities for them by:

  • Ensuring that the names and addresses of 7th and 8th graders are released to Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School by October 15 of each school year.
  • Ensuring that all 8th-grade students are provided with the invitations sent to McCall Middle School administration by the Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School (NEMT) to take part in a tour during regular middle school hours, with transportation paid for by NEMT.
  • Ensuring that McCall Middle School administration assists interested middle school students in attending NEMT-hosted tours during regular middle school hours, and that the students’ absence is excused without penalty.
  • Ensuring that  McCall Middle School administration shares NEMT tour dates on our Winchester Public Schools website for all middle school students. NEMT provided Information about career technical education programs, and careers will be shared with students on-site at McCall Middle School, including via presentations, as well as through mail, email, and on our public-facing website, by October 15 of each school year.
